ElectionKeeper

Who uses ElectionKeeper

ElectionKeeper is built for community organizations electing their own leaders and deciding their own questions, under their own rules.

Student unions

A general election can have dozens of positions, thousands of voters, and seats that only some students can vote for. ElectionKeeper handles that in one ballot:

  • Voter groups restrict a position to one faculty, college or year, and each student sees only the positions they're eligible for.
  • Multi-winner positions fill several council seats at once.
  • Daily voting hours keep voting to campus hours if your rules ask for it.
  • Ten ballot languages for international students, and an accessible ballot on any phone, with no app to install.
  • Write-ins where your constitution allows them, with spellings merged by you after voting closes.
  • An observer role for your returning officer or candidates' representatives, and a second voter check such as a student number, from the Standard plan up.

Nonprofits and associations

Annual elections and member votes often have to follow bylaws to the letter. ElectionKeeper gives you the record to show you did:

  • Referendums on bylaw changes with the pass rule your bylaws require: a simple majority, two-thirds or three-quarters.
  • An official report after you publish, with signed results anyone can check haven't been changed.
  • Delivery status for every invitation, so you know which members didn't receive one.
  • Observers who can co-sign the official report, and candidates who submit their own statements for your approval.
  • Bilingual elections from the Standard plan up, for organizations that work in two languages.

Clubs and societies

Small elections deserve the same secret ballot as large ones. A club committee of a few dozen members can run its election free: up to 25 voters, with every voting method.

  • Templates for a club AGM, with officer positions and a sample motion.
  • Key cards to print for in-person meetings, alongside emailed invitations.
  • Results that stay sealed until voting closes, so early counts can't sway late voters.

Boards and committees

Officer elections and votes among a few people need extra care: in a very small group, results alone can reveal how someone voted.

  • A small committee template that explains this risk before you launch, so you can decide how to run the vote.
  • Ranked choice for single positions, so a chair is elected with majority support.
  • The Strict security level when someone running the vote is also a candidate: only your team holds the key that opens the results.
  • The one-role rule (optional): a person standing for several positions can be chosen for only one of them on each ballot. It applies to single choice and multi-winner positions.

Not what ElectionKeeper is for

ElectionKeeper isn't for public or government elections, or for any vote that the law requires to be run a particular way. It's for organizations voting under their own rules.
